Innocent ... simplistic ... uninhibited ... unconditioned ... non-conformed perspectives and developments from our youth. Movements in education. Getting back to the basics, (youth) and how we learn about ourselves, (education).

There Is Such A Thing As A Free Dictionary E-Mail

Dictionary Day may not be a school holiday but it's not bad either, a roomful of third-graders decided Thursday in San Francisco. That's because each of them got a free dictionary. It wasn't an iPod, but it was something reasonably useful, even if it was both educational and a book.

"Cool," said 8-year-old Alexis Martinez. "My own dictionary. Free." Five thousand Bay Area children got dictionaries because of something called the California Dictionary Project, a San Francisco foundation that believes in the power of the word.

A new study finds that children not involved in structured extracurricular activities may experience lower self-esteem, anxiety.

She's not yet six, but Isabella Wisniewski's day-timer is already brimming with activities. There's school and homework, of course, then taekwondo every weekday afternoon, gymnastics twice a week and diving on Saturdays. A new study puts the lie to the popular notion that she's part of a generation of overwhelmed, overscheduled children. On issues such as abortion, gay marriage and religion, college students shift noticeably to the left from the time they arrive on campus through their junior year, new research shows.

The reason, according to UCLA's Higher Education Research Institute, isn't indoctrination by left-leaning faculty but rather the more powerful influence of fellow students. And at most colleges, left-leaning peer groups are more common than conservative ones. After college, students - particularly women - move somewhat back to the right politically.

Inevitably they ask if she knows anyone they can meet who uses a wheelchair. Of course, she does. During an eight-week session, her students at the Cambridge Friends School have the chance to befriend at least half a dozen people with a wide range of physical disabilities. It's a unique program that's also part of a growing trend to help children become more sensitive to those who may somehow be "different."

Steps for Positive Observation

STEP 1: Recognize
What we are conditioned to experience... Where does the belief come from?  Your belief or someone else's belief?

STEP 2: Realize
A positive outlook is a choice... You are always at choice.  Example: Are you a smoker or someone who chooses to smoke?

STEP 3: Quantify
The positive and productive potential found within... You are and always have been total potential... Grab it... Grow it!
