Your mobile phone may soon be able to diagnose respiratory illnesses in seconds when you cough into it.
Software being developed by American and Australian scientists will hopefully allow patients simply to cough into their phone, and it will tell them whether they have cold, flu, pneumonia or other respiratory diseases.

Orville Rogers can make it twice around Coppell High School's track in a little over four minutes. That's a respectable time for many of the teens who attend the Dallas school. For Rogers' peer group, it's remarkable.
Rogers, 91, ran at Coppell last summer in the Texas Masters Championships outdoor track meet. The nonagenarian holds the world indoor record in his age group (90 to 94) for the mile (9:56.58) and the 800 meters (4:19.97).

Now, doctors who specialize in wound management are growing skin to help people like Tomas save their limbs and extremities. Pharmaceutical and biotech companies are extracting collagen -- a protein that makes up 75 percent of skin -- from donated skin and creating grafts, or patches, that can induce a patient's own skin to grow. The donated skin can come from a variety of sources: anything from a pig's pancreas to a baby's foreskin.

Healthy neighborhood may be a way to address epidemic, researchers say
CHICAGO - People who live in neighborhoods with safe sidewalks, ample parks, good public transportation and ready access to fresh fruits and vegetables are 38 percent less likely to develop diabetes than others, U.S. researchers said on Monday.
