Three billion USD has been voted to fight Malaria in Africa and elsewhere in the world. The funds will be used to provide bed nets, indoor spraying and improved diagnosis. It will also ensure preventive measures for pregnant women and the introduction of a new vaccine to fight the disease.

The majority of more than 140 civilian labourers
abducted in south-west Afghanistan by Taleban insurgents last weekend
have been set free.
Rohul Amin, governor of Farah province, said 118 workers had
been released and the news was confirmed by a spokesman for the
militants.
The Taleban spokesman said the other captives would be released soon.

Two recent ratifications by Argentina unequivocally support its recent
abolition of the death penalty. This latest initiative paves the way
for other countries to follow suit, and makes Argentina the sixth
country to ratify all the human rights instruments of the
inter-American system.
On 2 September 2008, Argentina ratified the Second Optional Protocol to
the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights aimed at the
abolition of the death penalty.
