This
is not a political message. It's public. It's personal.
Let's take a moment and look beyond our past and present
administrations. The elections are behind us. What role will each of us
begin to play?
Regardless of which individual(s) you supported or which one of the 51+
political
parties you represent, determine what next steps you will take. Despite
the
popularity or unpopularity of the elections, the true success and
well-being of
our communities, our country and our global partners, rest not with
elected officials, but with each of us. A political leader is only as
strong as
the population he or she represents. How strong are you?
So, whether your candidate won or not, do you not now
have
an obligation to act and move forward to make the changes that you
desire...changes that actually need to happen? As a species, we are
really good
at complaining. But we have also demonstrated that we are capable of
collaborating and working together towards common goals. What varies
between the two is the degree and duration of time
that each takes. The typical route taken has been to argue our way back
to
a state of "normalcy." At least, this is what we have done during
economic downturns in the past. The outcome...mediocre results and
minimal changes in our behavior. Can someone hand me a Band-aid,
please? Maybe it is time to start acting and
participating differently?
Absolution or Accountability: Consider the current socio-economic
environment. Notice these conditions on both an individual and global level.
Acknowledge the existence of a new administration in office (party preference
aside). See, hear and feel yourself as being present within all these
variables. Now ask yourself which course
of action you are taking...absolution or accountability? By definition,
Absolution means a remission of "sins" pronounced from someone outside of you.
Accountability is an obligation or willingness to accept responsibility or to
account for one's actions? Which grants you greater results, controllability
and measurable success? Which one holds you to the past and which one pulls you
forward? Exactly! So in relation to establishing the changes you want and need
for yourself and for the population, everything starts and has actual power
through YOU. The building blocks reside in each of us. Positive change does not
occur solely with our political entities.
Hope: We often summons up hope to act as a catalyst for new
intentions or change. We place hope upon things we see value in. By definition, hope means: to Want something to
happen or to be true; to usually have good reason to think that it Might; to
cherish a desire with Anticipation. As positive as hope is, it lacks clarity. There
are limitations. It is definitely a step in the right direction, but for actual
changes to occur, we need to go beyond anticipation. There is a big difference
in trying and actually doing. Find hope in something, and then go further...much
further. Know your mission, know your
purpose and see it through. See your actions as being based on knowing what you
are doing, rather than just hoping for the best.
January 20th, 2009: Reflect back on the inaugural
speech given on this date. While the speech was beautifully written, the "defining
statements" of change the media so adamantly sought after, should actually come
from each of us...we, the people. It is now your turn to speak. Visualize. See
yourself back on January 20th on the steps of the Capital Building. Right
on the heels of our new president's inaugural speech...with microphone in front of
you, facing all people near and far and with complete audacity, focus,
confidence and rock-solid determination, say (Ready):
"People of the United States and our neighbors
across the world, we have many challenges in front of us. As individuals we are
strong. As a collective we are stronger. We are all parts of the greater whole.
Though our individual behaviors may vary, ultimately we share many of the same
purposes and intentions. I know my own level of greatness and I know the full
range of possibilities I possess. Each of you is equally capable of realizing
your own magnificence. Wherever and however we see ourselves, we are much more
than that. Accelerated changes for the betterment of this country and the world
start with me and they start with each of you. As individual parts, we hold all
the resources and insights necessary to establish new foundations for growth
and congruency.
Starting today, at this very moment, my initial contribution
in rebuilding my community is to (verb) (noun). The results of my actions will
be realized by constructive changes in (noun).
In rebuilding my beloved country, I will (adverb) (verb) (noun) and (noun). I will guarantee its success by (verb). In rebuilding and
strengthening relations with our global communities, I will (adverb) (verb)
with entities such as (noun/proper noun). I will hold true to the course of my
actions and will not waiver. I am the change that I expect to see in the world.
Together, we are the changes that will happen everywhere. In closing, my
defining statement to myself and to all of you
is __________________."
