In launching Vortex2, researchers hope to better understand the mechanisms of a tornado.
If the conditions are just right, any thunderstorm can spawn a tornado in a relative blink of an eye. A new project that kicks off this weekend aims to capture the mechanics of a storm giving birth to these destructive, swirling storms. It's the largest-ever study of tornadoes. More than 100 researchers involved with the VORTEX2 (Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment 2) project will deploy a flotilla of instruments across the Great Plains over the course of the study, which runs from May 1 to June 15.

(CNN) -- Although women the world over have been doing it for centuries, we can't really blame a guy for being a guy. And this is especially true now that we know that the male and female brains have some profound differences. Our brains are mostly alike. We are the same species, after all. But the differences can sometimes make it seem like we are worlds apart.
