The California Public Utilities Commission approves construction of the last segment of line for the 250-mile Tehachapi transmission project in Kern County.
Southern California Edison got the green light Thursday to build the final segments of a nearly $2-billion transmission line that will connect customers with renewable energy produced by windmills.
The California Public Utilities Commission approved the construction of the last 173 miles of Edison's 250-mile Tehachapi transmission project in Kern County.
The line will be able to transmit as much as 4,500 megawatts of electricity produced from wind, enough power for nearly 3 million homes.

A new study shows that nearly 5 percent of Missouri's employment - more than 130,000 jobs - is tied to the green jobs sector.
Industries covered in the survey conducted by the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center included building, energy production, waste management, farming and manufacturing.

When a motorist carves up a cyclist in London there is usually a few angry words exchanged, perhaps an unpleasant hand signal. In Denmark, when petrol heads tried to bulldoze the bike lanes the cyclists burned the cars.
Ok, so that’s not strictly true. One car was smashed up and it was “lent” by a campaigner willing to publicise the cause. But it illustrates how strongly Danes feel about their bikes. This country loves the bicycle. On every street there are bikes cruising past and outside every shop is an “iron horse” often unlocked, since bike theft is so uncommon. Everyone owns a bicycle and some people have two. In central Copenhagen half the population bike to work.

The European Union has agreed a £6.5 billion three-year package to fast-track the response to global warming in the poorest countries, of which Gordon Brown has pledged to provide £1.5 billion, it has been announced.
British Prime Minister upped the British figure at the last minute from £1.2 billion to £1.5 billion - the largest national share - to encourage bigger offers, particularly from Spain and Italy.

(CNN) -- The drumbeat rousing world leaders to action on climate change is fading out as delegates get down to the business of negotiating a global deal at climate talks in Copenhagen.
Almost 100 heads of state have confirmed they will attend the 15th meeting of the Conference of Parties, or COP15, which begins Monday in the Danish capital.
